Heart rate increases with increasing exercise intensity and drifts up with fatigue and increasing stress at constant pace or power. Heart rate is therefore a useful tool for monitoring relative workload — if its measurement is properly calibrated. Knowing maximal heart rate is therefore important for exercisers and athletes.
Dr. Stephen Seiler presents the case for why properly measured heart rate data is important to track and about some dos and don’ts to follow when attempting to determine your own HRmax.
