Can you see fatigue in your data?
Coaches Trevor Connor and Ryan Kohler analyze the Power Duration Curve in WKO in order to illustrate how you can train fatiguability.
They do this by discussing how to train your body to perform strong efforts at five-minute-power intensity at the end of a long ride—which is often the type of effort you’ll see in a race setting.
As the expression goes: “It’s not about how hard you can go for five minutes… it’s about how hard you can go for five minutes after you’ve already ridden for four hours.”
In other words, it often comes down to the strength of the aerobic engine and its ability to fend off fatigue for as long as possible that allows an athlete to utilize attacking power to make the decisive move late in a race.
